End Grain Brick and Mortar cutting board with Birdseye Maple Border
20 × 17 × 2
This custom cutting board was built around a brick and mortar pattern, a design that requires precise planning to execute consistently across the full surface.
The bricks are cut from hickory, with both heartwood and sapwood present throughout. Because hickory carries significant natural variation between the two, no two bricks read the same. The lighter tones of the sapwood and the darker, richer tones of the heartwood shift across the surface, giving the pattern depth and movement that a single species board cannot replicate. The mortar lines are maple, providing a clean contrast that defines each brick and holds the layout together visually.
The border is birdseye maple, which adds a distinct texture around the perimeter that sets it apart from a standard straight grain frame. The Wild Board logo is laser engraved and inlayed with black ca glue right into the border face. Finger holds are routed into opposing sides for easy handling. Both sides of the board are flat with no juice groove.
The board came with a custom display stand built from an ash base with live edge wenge stays. The stand holds the board upright on the counter, and the contrast between the light maple and dark wenge mirrors the tonal range in the board itself.
