Custom Black walnut Lighted Shadow Box

This shadow box was built as a one of a kind display piece for Fastenal. The frame and backing are milled from solid black walnut, sanded to 180 grit before finishing and brought to 320 between coats. The finish is Vesting LED Hard Wax Oil, a Dutch formulated hardwax oil that cures on contact with UV light. Two coats, applied and cured by hand with a handheld UV lamp. The walnut grain does the rest.

Fastenal supplied the diamond plate sign. Non magnetic, likely aluminum, and mounted floating on inset pegs set with 24 hour epoxy. That gap between the plate and the backer is what gives the lighting room to breathe. A full color RGB LED strip runs the interior perimeter, remote controlled with motion activation built in. Warm white, blue, purple, red, green. Every color shifts the mood of the piece completely.

Mitered corners. Tight joinery. A beveled inner lip that puts the focus where it belongs. This is the kind of build that does not need to announce itself.
